Zero Tolerance
Safeguarding NHS Staff From Abuse
The surgery has a zero-tolerance policy towards aggressive or violent patients.
The policy covers verbal aggression or physical violence, and will include shouting, emotional blackmail, threats of violence as well as physical attacks.
We find that the issue relates to a tiny proportion of our patients. We are also aware that people can often be under considerable emotional strain due to illness or mental health issues. However, the surgery staff are here to help you and they deserve not to be abused in their place of work.
The surgery takes the safety and wellbeing of our staff seriously. Each report will be considered on its merits. Some patients may receive a final warning letter for a first incident. The practice reserves the right to remove a patient from the surgery list and these patients will have to register elsewhere. In the most serious of cases the removal will be the same day.
